John D. McCown
Mr. McCown has more than three decades of experience in the transportation industry as both an operator and investor. Most recently, he assisted private equity firms with infrastructure related investments and worked on developing startups in the transportation space as the founder of Blue Alpha Capital.
For twenty years, Mr. McCown worked on a daily basis with Malcom McLean, the inventor of container shipping. He co-founded Trailer Bridge, Inc., an innovative U.S. flag container carrier, and led it as Chairman & CEO until 2008. In 2005, Trailer Bridge had the highest ratio of operating income to revenue among almost fifty container shipping companies worldwide.
Mr. McCown was Senior Vice President – Transport Investments at Paulson & Co., a US$ 20 billion hedge fund, from 2011 to 2015. Profits, in this sector, exceeded market returns in 85% of its investments, which averaged US$ 350 million over four year period.
Mr. McCown is the holder of two shipping related patents. He received a M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1980 and a B.B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1975.
